  • MISSION

The Unit of Plant Biotechnology Unit serves the farming and industrial-agricultural sectors through research and development, technical services, and training courses, in order to increase the competitive advantage of these sectors in global markets.

  • LINES OF RESEARCH

Plant micropropagation:

One important research, design, and innovation activity is the development of protocols for in vitro propagation of various species of economic interest such as agaves, ornamental plants and cut flowers, forest and fruit, among others.

Plant breeding:

One of the main activities of research, design, and innovation for the Plant Biotechnology Unit is the genetic improvement of plant species of economic interest, by using various tools of biotechnology. The species we are currently working with include papaya, agaves, ornamental Agavaceae (tuberose) and lily. An important aspect of this research is the conservation, use and protection of plant genetic resources in Mexico.

Phytopathology:

Research, design, and innovation work in plant pathology is oriented to the study of pathogens (fungi, bacteria and viruses) that affect plant species of economic interest. This work includes taxonomic identification, plant-pathogen interaction and elements of biological and synthetic control.
